Privacy Policy
BeloPle — Last updated: 2 November 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information BeloPle ("we", "us") collects when you use the BeloPle Android app and the website belople.com, how we use it, who helps us run the service, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. If anything here is unclear, write to us at support@belople.com.
1. Information you give us
- Account: username, email address, password (stored only as a salted hash, never in readable form), display name, bio and profile photo. If you sign in with Google, Google gives us your name, email address and Google account ID; we do not store your Google photo and no password is created.
- Sign-up details: your date of birth (required when you sign up with email; it can be set only once and is used to apply the age rules in section 11), your gender (optional), your country, your city (optional) and the interests you pick.
- What you post: videos, photos, text posts, the optional place you type on a photo post, captions, comments, Daily moments, Q o D questions and answers, songs and covers you upload on BeloPle Music, live broadcast titles and live comments, your messages, including the photos and voice notes in them, and groups you create (their name, description, picture and monthly price) with the messages, photos and voice notes you send in groups.
- Payments and earnings: coin purchases and campaign payments (amount, currency, time and PawaPay's payment reference), and the coins you pay to join, renew or create a group. You type your mobile money number on PawaPay's own payment page, so we do not receive it for purchases. For cash-outs we keep the mobile money number you confirm with a code we email you, or the bank or PayPal details you type, together with your balances, gifts sent and received, earnings (including from groups you run) and cash-out history.
- Applications: what you write when you apply for monetization (including payout details) or for the BeloPle Ambassador programme.
- Reports and messages to us: what you write when you report something or email support.
2. Information collected when you use BeloPle
- Activity: what you watch and for how long, what you skip, like, comment on, share, save or mark "not interested", accounts you follow, searches, and the Lives you join. This is what builds your feed.
- Visible activity: if you and the other person both have profile views switched on, a visit to their profile is shown to them. The owner of a Daily can see who viewed it. People you chat with can see when you were last active and whether you have read their messages. Members of a group can see who else is in it and who is online, and the person who runs a paid group can see when each member's paid time ends.
- IP address: we keep the address of your latest sign-in, replaced at each sign-in, to detect abuse such as many accounts run from one connection. We do not use it to work out where you are.
- Device information (Android app): your device's Android ID, used only to count an invite reward once per phone (we store it only when you joined through someone's invite); your notification token; and the app version and type of device, sent with performance measurements such as how fast a video starts.
- Invites: if you joined through an invite link or code, including one passed on by Google Play when the app is installed, we record who invited you, and invite rewards are linked to that person.
- On the website: see "Website storage and cookies" in section 10.
3. Phone permissions
The Android app asks for these permissions, and only uses them when you use the feature:
- Camera and microphone: to record videos, take photos in a chat, record voice notes and go Live. Nothing is recorded or sent until you post, send or start a Live.
- Photos and videos on your phone: to let you choose what to upload. We only receive the files you pick and post.
- Notifications: to tell you about new messages, comments, follows, gifts and other activity.
- Location: the app does not ask for location and never uses GPS. Some phones save a location inside photo and video files; turn off location tagging in your camera settings if you don't want that in the files you share.
4. How we use information
- To run BeloPle: accounts, posting, feeds, messages, groups, Lives, Daily, Q o D, music, gifts, notifications and search.
- To personalize what you see, using your interests, your country and your activity.
- To show advertising in Shorts and Public. These are BeloPle's own campaigns, chosen by your country, your interests and your activity, and, in the Android app and only for people aged 18 and over, ads from Google AdMob. For Google's ads, Google may use your device's advertising ID and technical data (such as your device type and approximate location) to choose and measure them; where the law requires it (the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland) we ask for your consent first. We never use your messages, birthday or gender for advertising, and we show no ads to anyone under 18. Advertisers only see totals, never who you are. You can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of ad personalization, in your phone's settings (Android: Settings, Google, Ads). Google ads are shown only in the Android app, never on belople.com.
- To keep BeloPle safe. Automated checks look at video cover images and at Q o D questions and can flag something that may break our Community Guidelines; a person reviews it and decides. People's reports are reviewed by people too.
- To process coin purchases, campaign payments, gifts, group memberships, earnings and cash-outs, and to prevent fraud.
- To send you emails you need: password resets, codes that confirm your mobile money number, cash-out results, and a note when a group membership ends.
- To credit invite rewards and to measure and improve how fast the app works.
5. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it for advertising only with Google AdMob, as described in section 4.
Other people on BeloPle
Your public profile and what you post publicly can be seen by anyone. Followers-only and private content is shown only to the people you allow. Messages are shown to the people in the conversation, and a group's messages, photos and voice notes to its members. A public video can be saved by other people, with your @username on it.
Service providers who work for us
- Cloudflare: hosting, our database and file storage, delivery of videos and photos, Live video and sound (relayed while you are live and not recorded), the automated safety checks, short-lived service logs, and website statistics that use no cookies.
- PawaPay: mobile money payments and cash-outs. For a cash-out we send PawaPay your mobile money number, the amount and the currency; PawaPay passes it to your mobile network (for example MTN or Airtel).
- Resend: sends our emails, so it receives your email address and the email's content, which can include your mobile money number in a confirmation code or cash-out email.
- Google: Sign in with Google; Firebase Cloud Messaging, which delivers app notifications, including the sender's name and the first part of a message's text; Google Fonts, which supplies the app's and website's fonts; Google Play, which passes on an invite code when the app is installed; a connection service that helps Live video reach you; and Google AdMob, which shows ads to people aged 18 and over in Shorts and Public in the Android app.
- Browser push services: if you allow notifications on the website, your browser's push service delivers them, encrypted.
- Banks and PayPal: if you choose a bank or PayPal cash-out, we use the details you give to send you the money.
When the law requires it
We may share information when required by law, or to protect the safety and rights of people on BeloPle or of BeloPle itself.
6. Where it is stored
BeloPle runs on Cloudflare. Our database is stored in Western Europe and photos, videos and other files in North America, and our other providers are based in the United States and the United Kingdom. Your information is therefore transferred outside your country, including outside Rwanda, to be stored and processed for the purposes in this policy.
7. How long we keep it
- While your account exists: your profile, posts, messages, activity and settings, until you delete them or your account.
- Daily: a Daily moment, its views, likes and comments are deleted automatically 24 hours after it is posted. A reply someone sent to your Daily can remain in your notifications.
- Live: broadcasts are not recorded. Live titles and comments are kept.
- Short-lived records: sign-ins last 30 days; password reset links work for 30 minutes and mobile money codes for 10 minutes; we keep only the IP address of your latest sign-in.
- Logs and backups: service logs are kept for a few days, and database backups for up to 30 days.
- After you delete your account: see section 8 for what is kept and why.
8. Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time: in the app, under Profile → Settings → Delete account, or on the website at belople.com in Settings. If you can't sign in, email support@belople.com from the address on the account and we will delete it for you. How to delete your account sets out the steps.
What is deleted, straight away
Your profile, videos, photos, posts, Daily moments, songs, comments, likes, follows, Q o D questions and answers, notifications, devices and sign-ins. Your conversations are deleted completely, which means the messages disappear for the other people in them too. Your group memberships and the messages, photos and voice notes you sent in groups are deleted. Groups you run are closed and deleted, and members who had paid time left get back the coins for the days they had left.
What is kept
Some records are kept because we are required to, or need them to prevent fraud and handle disputes: purchases, payments (including group memberships, group creation fees and refunds), gifts, earnings and cash-outs (including the payout details used), monetization applications, reports made by or about the account, records of moderation decisions, past Lives and advertising campaigns with their media. Where such records exist, your account is anonymized instead of removed: your name, email, birthday, gender, country, city, interests, phone number and sign-in details are erased. Any unspent coins or earnings are lost when the account is deleted, so cash out first.
Copies of deleted photos and videos can remain for a short time in caches before they expire, and database backups for up to 30 days.
To remove a single message, use "Delete for everyone" within 15 minutes of sending it. "Delete for me" only hides it from you; the other person still sees it.
9. Security
- The app connects to BeloPle over encrypted connections (HTTPS).
- Passwords are stored as salted hashes, and password reset links and mobile money codes are stored only as hashes.
- Staff access is limited by role. Moderators do not see email addresses, IP addresses, balances or payout details, and no staff tool reads your messages. The one exception is a report: when someone reports a message in a group, the staff who handle the report see that message, any photo or voice note in it, who sent it and which group it was in.
- Messages are not end-to-end encrypted.
- Photos, videos and voice notes are stored at long, random addresses. Anyone who has a file's address can open it, so share them only with people you trust. Photos and voice notes sent in groups are kept apart: they open only through links BeloPle gives to the group's members, and each link stops working after about a day.
10. Your choices
- Edit your profile, make your account private, and choose who can message you and who can comment, in Settings.
- Turn profile views off in Settings.
- Turn like, comment and follow notifications off in Settings, and a group's notifications off in that group. Message, gift and safety notifications are always sent; you can turn all notifications off in your phone's or browser's settings.
- Delete any video, photo, post or comment you posted.
- Ask us what information we hold about you, or to correct it, by email.
- Delete your account, as described in section 8.
Website storage and cookies
On belople.com we keep your sign-in, your recent searches and copies of pages you have opened (so parts of BeloPle work offline) in your browser's storage. Signing in with Google sets a few cookies that expire after 10 minutes and are used only to complete that sign-in. We use no advertising cookies. Signing out removes your sign-in, your recent searches and the stored copies of your feed, messages and notifications from the browser.
11. Children and teenagers
BeloPle is not for children under 13. You must be at least 13 to create an account, and we ask for your date of birth when you sign up with email. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 13, we delete it; tell us at support@belople.com.
People aged 13 to 17 can use BeloPle with extra protections: they cannot go Live, join or create groups, send or receive gifts, buy coins or cash out; they are shown no ads; only people they follow can message them; and their searches are not included in our activity logs. Read our Child Safety Standards.
12. Changes and contact
We may update this Privacy Policy. If we make an important change, we will tell you in the app or by other reasonable means before it takes effect, and the date at the top will change.
