Safety on BeloPle

BeloPle is built for African voices, stories and creativity, and people share their stories best when they feel safe. Here are the tools you control, the protections for under-18s, and what happens when you report something.

Tools you control

Block

Block an account you do not want in your space, for example from your chat with them. After a block, neither of you sees the other's videos or posts, and neither of you can message the other, in the app and on the web.

Report

Report a video or a post when you think it breaks the community guidelines. Your report goes to BeloPle's moderators.

Private account

Turn on Private account and only your followers can see your videos and posts.

Who sees each video

Every video you post can be public, for your followers only, or private. Only public videos can be reposted by others.

Who can comment

Choose who can comment on your videos and posts: everyone, your followers, or nobody.

Daily, just for followers

Your Daily moments are seen only by you and your followers, and they disappear after 24 hours.

Protections for under-18s

You must be at least 13 to join BeloPle. We ask for your birthday when you sign up, including when you continue with Google, and it can only be set once. BeloPle relies on the birthday you enter, so please give your real one: it decides which features your account can use.

Accounts under 18 have these limits:

These limits are enforced by BeloPle itself, so they apply in the app and on the web. Our child safety standards explain what is never allowed and how to report a concern about a child.

What happens when you report

Reports go to BeloPle's moderators, and a person looks at the content before deciding what to do under the community guidelines.

Automated checks help flag some content. New videos get an automated check that passes anything worrying to the moderators. It never removes anything on its own: people make the decisions. Suggested Questions of the Day are read by an automated check and approved by BeloPle before they appear, and every ad campaign is reviewed before it runs.

Not everything is checked automatically, so your reports matter. If you see something that breaks the rules, report it.

To report a comment, a message or an account, email beloplesupport@gmail.com with the username or a link and what happened.

Think a decision was wrong? Write to us through the contact page and say which video, post or account it is about.

If you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact your local police or emergency services first.

Questions about safety

Can teenagers use BeloPle?

Yes, from 13. Accounts under 18 cannot go Live, send or receive gifts, buy coins or cash out, are not shown ads, and can only be messaged by people they follow.

Can I stop strangers from messaging me?

Yes. In Settings, choose who can message you: Everyone, Followers or Nobody. Followers means only people you follow can message you. A first message from someone new arrives as a request you can accept or decline.

How do I report something?

Use Report on the video or post. Videos can be reported in the app and on the website, and posts in the app. For a comment, a message or an account, email beloplesupport@gmail.com with the username or a link and what happened.

Does BeloPle check every post automatically?

No. Automated checks help flag some content, such as new videos, but people make the decisions. That is why reports from the community matter.

Can I change my birthday later?

Not by yourself. Your birthday can only be set once, so enter your real one when you sign up. If it is wrong, write to beloplesupport@gmail.com.
